Note:

The University College London (UCL) Centre for Engineering Education (CEE) Learning Exchange and the UK & Ireland Engineering Education Research Network (EERN) are the collaborators on this project in order to have international engagement in the practice and research of expanding student participation and in the provision of education for engineering leadership. Specifically, this award aims to: • map models and pedagogies utilized by engineering educators in the UK and Europe in engineering and engineering leadership; • compare and promote the UTEP E-Lead model for engaging and supporting under-served student populations in engineering leadership with UCL, CEE, and other UK or EU models to develop and improve education practices across participating institution; • understand more about how pedagogical models and support frameworks (for access, success and retention) fit in to, or are shaped by, the wider higher education systems within which they function; • engage with the UK and Ireland Engineering Education Research Network in providing a forum for the ex-change of ideas and best practices within the UK; • create a transatlantic E-Lead network of engineering education providers whose interests coalesce around engineering and leadership; and • publish outcomes in relevant research journals. This award facilitates multiple visits to a broad variety of universities and colleges in the UK/Ireland to determine the views and methods each uses to educate engineers, as well as a focused period in three regions of the UK. Under the guidance of the EERN leadership team, the fellow will engage in broader faculty discussions at EERN symposiums and, as needed, develop discussion workshops, talks, Q&A sessions, informally or more formally at conferenced venues throughout the academic year. Other locations within the EU will be considered based on the recommendation of the EERN leadership team.
