UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON
Program Title: #N/A
Note:
This is a collaborative research project between the laboratories of Dr. Navin Varadarajan from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering of the University of Houston and Dr. Hugues Ouellet from the Department of Biological Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso. The laboratory of Dr. Varadarajan has developed a nasally-delivered TB vaccine. So far, this promising vaccine was proven to cause a strong immune response in mice. Dr. Ouellet's laboratory will be testing this experimental vaccine by challenging immunized C57BL/6J mice with aerosolized Mycobacteriun tuberculosis bacilli. We expect that this proof-of-principle project will lead to the development of effective vaccines for the prevention of this old, but still threatening infectious disease.
