Growing from a collaboration between the Rubin Center for the Visual Arts and the Center for Environmental Resource Management at The University of Texas at El Paso, Experiencing the Bosque is a multi-year intervention that, through public events, brings people together to create and grow as we reconnect to and learn about the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo valley environment at the Rio Bosque Wetlands Park. Experiencing the Bosque's first phase spans a 14-month period ending in November of 2022 where we are offering monthly artist-led public workshops and other targeted engagements with schools and community organizations. Since our first public event in September of 2021, we have involved over 300 people and have developed meaningful collaborations with community partners including Ysleta del Sur Pueblo, Frontera Land Alliance and the Girl Scouts of the Southwest. The funding received from the TCA - Arts Respond grant will be applied to the production and execution of an ambitious performance installation at the Rio Bosque Wetlands Park which will culminate this first phase of the project. The material generated from the hundreds of people engaged through the previous 12-months will be curated by our artistic team into a day-long installation, where the public will be invited to experience the park in a multi-sensorial way while fostering a deep understanding of the importance the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo has in our region. The performance will be premiered on November 5th, 2022.
