Note:

The US is experiencing a fast growth in its Hispanic/Latino population. An increase of 23% was seen from 2010 to 2020. The use of a language other than English tripled from 1980 to 2021. The Hispanic/Latino community has high cardiovascular risk factors. Previous studies have revealed that limited English-proficient patients abstain from seeking care or follow-up due to inadequate communication understanding. Language concordance can impede patient cooperation, create a negative attitude toward nurses, and increase anxiety, pain, and discomfort. Population: The proposed study aims to explore the life experiences of LEP Hispanics/Latinos with established cardiovascular conditions when interacting in a predominantly English-speaking healthcare environment. The proposed sample size is 15 to 20 patients. Research Design: A descriptive phenomenology design will utilize. Instrument: A semi-structured interview format will be utilized. Procedure: Participants will be recruited through the community by receiving a flyer or email of the study. Those participants who meet the inclusion criteria will be scheduled to participate in a 60-90-minute interview. The interviews will be recorded and transcribed. The data will be analyzed and subtracted to find themes of life experiences. The narrations will review to extract codes from the participants' responses.
