Note:

Individuals with obesity are at an increased risk of experiencing chronic pain necessitating the prescription of opioids, and among individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD), obesity is associated with increased risk for overdose. This project focuses on understanding these relationships using a basic science approach. Recent evidence suggests that eating a high fat diet can increase pain sensitivity in rodents; however, it is not known if diet can also impact sensitivity of rats to the pain-relieving effects of morphine. This project will use rats eating different diets to examine morphine-induced pain relief.
