Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: Policy Feedback in a Predominantly Hispanic Community in the US: How Government Food Assistance Affects Resources and Political Participation
Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity:
AMERICAN POLITICAL SCIENCE ASSOCIATION
Program Title: #N/A
Note:
What is the relationship between government food assistance and political participation in a predominantly Hispanic community in the US? How do changes in government food assistance affect resources and political participation? My hypotheses are: (H1) government food assistance is positively associated with politically relevant resources, such as food security and health; (H2) government food assistance is positively associated with political participation; (H3) the relationship between government food assistance and non-electoral political participation is moderated by citizenship status. The research design uses a panel survey of adults in El Paso, Texas and quantitative data analysis. Round 1 of the survey currently is being conducted in April 2022, and this proposal requests $2500 to support Round 2 of survey data collection in April 2023. The project will make key contributions to the literature on policy feedback and political behavior and will provide a community needs and engagement assessment to El Paso leaders.
