SAMs 1.3.1 This research project proposes to implement the I-FOCUS-CS (Increasing Financial Opportunities and Coeducational Utilities for Success in Computer Science) Scholarship program to increase the number of academically talented but low-income students in Computer Science (CS) and to help them proceed to the technical workforce or pursue advanced studies in CS. An external evaluator will help in performing formative evaluation for project improvement and summative evaluation to assess and document project outcomes, accomplishments, and lessons learned. This project will demonstrate that combining financial aid with evidence-based and experience-based educational activities significantly improves the retention and graduation of academically talented but low-income students. Generated experience, knowledge, and tools will enable us to provide sustainable solutions in advancing the STEM education. Educational materials and successful activities will be documented/published and made available on public domain for possible replication at other institutions.
