Note:
SAMs 1.1.1; The project titled "U.S. - Ireland R&D Partnership: FW-HTF-R: ARISE: Assembly and Robotics Innovation in Steel Building and Erection" considers the structural design and performance, as well as construction productivity and safety, of a new structural steel connection. The connection system is referred to as the intermeshed steel connection (ISC) and features precise volumetric cutting using advanced manufacturing processes to create interlocking ends for the steel pieces to be connected, thus they replace the traditional bolting or welding technologies. The connection is intended for robotic assembly at the construction site, and this study encompasses research activities that address experimental performance, ergonomic and safety issues needed for the development of the connection system. This contract is part of a larger effort being organized by New York University that brings together an interdisciplinary team of micro-economists, robotics experts, computer scientists, structural engineers and construction managers.
