Note:
SAMs 1.1.1; This research project brings together two laboratories with complementary experimental and computational expertise to determine the complexity of the interstitial space at nanoscopic resolution in live tissue and its effect on neuronal function. The long-term objectives of each laboratory are to understand how the complex structure of the nervous system affects its function. In this project the interstitial space of hippocampal cells in vivo at a resolution of 50 x 50 x 200 nm will be mapped and the electrophysiological effects of manipulating the interstitial space volume on cellular electrophysiology will be studied. The project will be and interactive process of using models to motivate experiments that then will be used to refine computational theories and models.
