Note:
SAMs 1.1.1, Approved FY21 RRE ID 86344; The BCFES Housing First Project aims to address a significant gap in research and services for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness and transitions to postsecondary education for students with a history of foster care. Funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2020, the Housing First Project addresses the needs of 25 young adults with a history of foster care who are experiencing homelessness and are college-bound or enrolled at one of the three public postsecondary institutions in Bexar County: The University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas A&M University San Antonio, and the Alamo Colleges District. This scattered-sites rapid-rehousing model includes peer advocacy and supportive case management, as well as community collaborations with the San Antonio Bar Association, Jewish Family Service, Child Advocates San Antonio, and the Bexar County Children Court. The current proposal is a renewal for a third year of funding to support ongoing community-engaged research and programming for the Housing First Project.
