Note:
SAMs 1.1.1; This research study aims to characterize the temporal (monthly) succession of the microfouling communities on Ti, CuNi, and CS metal coupons deployed near a naval base in Texas over long durations (6-12 months) and explore their inter-taxa association and species co-occurrence patterns. Additionally, the active microflora in the biofilms of metal coupons will be characterized. Furthermore, this study also aims to evaluate the gap between field/environmental exposure and laboratory microcosms by comparing the composition of generated microfouling communities. The project team will be coordinating with Department of Navy Laboratories for maintaining relevance of real-world operational conditions and materials. The PI, and collaborators of this project will publish all relevant scientific information generated from this project. All research and education outcomes will be disseminated to the academic community and general public through conference presentations, publications in conference proceedings, publications in peer-reviewed journals, courses, seminars, and the internet. As part of the research plan, data will be generated in the form of physical samples, sequencing datasets, and experimental measurements.
