Within the first year of the EFRC renewal, UTSA will have the capability to fabricate and sinter UN pellets using this new infrastructure. UTSA will investigate methods for grain growth in phase pure uranium mononitride, including the powder metallurgical doping referenced here as well as arc melt synthesis of UN, leveraging an existing arc melt furnace and dU metal supplied by Idaho National Laboratory.
