Note:
SAMs 1.1.1 and 1.1.4; The research goal of this project is to introduce a modeling framework to enable a new understanding of how the onset of elastic micro-buckling in periodic Architected Materials (AMs) can be modified, controlled, and designed to achieve desired post-micro-buckling behavior. To accomplish this goal, the PI proposes a new development that allows one to understand and quantify variability in the micro-buckling and the post-micro-buckling behavior of AMs due to unintended imperfections. This information can then be used to select and apply "nudgets" that enable AMs that can deterministically transition between many different buckled states, exhibiting tunable material response, and robust morphing capabilities. The research findings will be collected and analyzed.
