Restricted Research: YES

Academic Discipline: Engineering and Integrated Design

Department, Center, School, or Institute: Ctr For Adv Mfg & Lean Systems

Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: Determining equivalent initial defect size for additively manufactured Ti specimens

Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity: OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY RESEARCH FOUNDATION

CFDA: 0

Program Title: none

Note:

SAMs 1.1.1 and 1.1.4; The objective of this R&D project is to understand and quantify the defect distribution of additively manufactured (AM) titanium components as a function of various machine & geometry parameters (laser scan speed, build orientation, etc.), and second, to determine the effect the AM distributions have on safety and inspection intervals for structural configurations relevant to the USAF. UTSA will provide experimental results for AFRL and UTSA parts to assess machine variability. Risk assessment modeling will determine the relative importance of the material defects compared to other model parameters.
