Note:
SAMs 1.1.1; To facilitate the selection process of suitable soil improvement technology, this research and technology project aims at: (1) collecting and compiling performance data of constructed embankments and retaining walls to establish appropriate settlement criteria based on their functionality, (2) analyzing each selected soil improvement method to generate a cost vs. construction time map that can be used for preliminary assessment, and (3) developing a selection tool, which can calculate construction time and post-construction settlement for various soil improvement methods as well as their combinations. The focus of this project will be preloading with/without wick drain, pile/columns supported embankment and lightweight fills. The outcome of this project consists of: (1) a design guideline to assist engineers to narrow down the selection into two choices, and (2) a design tool to quantify cost and time of each preselected methods.
