Note:

SAMs 1.1.1 This research study will identify low surface brightness extended emission from warm dust in 8 nearby galaxies, using images taken in five wavebands. In addition to standard image reduction (instrumental and flatfield corrections, flux calibration), our analysis will entail careful removal of the spatially-dependent background, modelling and subtraction of the nuclear point source, and deconvolution of the images. From the combined imaging dataset for each object, we will obtain mid-infrared spectral energy distributions (SED) at a variety of (high) spatial resolutions, paying careful attention to the variation of the JWST/MIRI PSF, and using different image tiling schemes. These schemes will be object-dependent due to the complexity of the circumnuclear and extended structure that our targets exhibit. Our measurements will be compared to detailed models produced by our team to fully interpret the data. This approach will allow us to determine the temperature and mass distribution of warm dust, its composition (through silicate absorption/emission) and the location of central star-formation.
