Note:
SAMs 1.1.1 Understanding future climatic threats to water resources and crop production is essential for adaptive agricultural water management and cropping systems in the Southern Great Plains. At present, there is no XAI framework for high-accuracy predictions of water resources climatic factors that affect crop production and agricultural water sustainability. The objectives of this research project are to 1) Apply XAI techniques to predict surface water, soil moisture, and groundwater levels using readily available climate and physiographic data and explain the interactions between the climatic and physiographic variables; 2) Test the predictive and explanatory power of XAI to provide short-range (e.g., season-ahead) forecast of crop yield and reveal the underlying rationale behind the forecasts, and 3) Assess future climate risks to crop production and water resources to evaluate possible adaptation pathways.
