Note:
SAMs 1.1.1; The Arts Incubation Research Lab proposes to expand its study of arts incubators from those for professional artists to those that offer entrepreneur-centered programs to creative high schoolers. Youth incubators have varying goals: 1) to prepare creative youth to enter the workforce as an alternative to going to college; 2) to foster cultural identity and thus empower the youth in marginalized communities; 3) to increase the financial competency of young artists; and/or 4) to rehabilitate troubled youth and foster skills in problem solving and conflict resolution. The AIR Lab proposes to expand its current incubator research to youth demographic. Under an education-focused lens, we will observe and assess teaching practices that could be applied to other programs both within and outside the arts. Our methods will be both quantitative and case-study, based on interviews with instructors and students to identify successful teaching philosophy, methods, and best practices.
