Note:
SAMs 1.1.1; In order for future AR/VR interfaces to support natural, effective, low-friction, interactions, they must provide users with the right information, presented in the most appropriate way, and presented at the optimal time in order to properly inform those interactions. This will require the consideration of contextual elements associated with the environment, the particulars of the task, and ultimately, the long-term and instantaneous processing capacity of the user. The primary goal of the research project is to develop an approach to measuring the perception of information communicated across multiple modalities and predicting the best modality for information presentation. This overarching goal can be broken down into three subgoals. The first subgoal will entail the development of the mathematical model that will be the framework for measurements. This model will be designed with some flexibility in the nature and degree of cross-modal influences on information processing, and the second subgoal is to establish an experimental approach to determine the appropriate specification of those aspects. The third subgoal will focus on the development and demonstration of the methods needed to establish the parametric specifics of a model for a given task.
