Note:

SAMs 1.1.1 and 1.3.1; This NSF collaborative research project, will integrate the theoretical perspectives of Mentoring Input-Process-Output (MIPO), culturally relevant pedagogy, social identity, and symbolic interactionism to conduct an exploratory sequential mixed methods study that includes: (1) a comparative case study to explore and describe important Culturally Relevant Mentorship (CRM) constructs and case types of mentors for URM adolescents; (2) a multi-step scale development study to develop and validate two new sets of CRM survey instruments for mentors and mentees; and (3) a large-scale survey study with a diverse sample to assess the relationships between mentors' CRM practices and URM mentees' CRM perceptions and STEM outcomes. This B2 3.0 project will also expand research collaborations/networks and enhance fundamental research capacity at the intersection of social/behavioral sciences and STEM education and diversity at MSIs and beyond. In addition, with GRA has help with data collection, data analysis, workshop presentations and dissemination.
