Note:

SAMs 1.1.1 and 1.1.4; This research project seeks to model how to efficiently deploy a hybrid fleet of ground vehicles and aerial drones for the direct delivery of goods (e.g., prepared food) from a central depot (e.g., retail business location) to the customers maintaining a specified pickup time window requirement. Both aerial drones and ground vehicles are stationed at the central depot. Ground vehicles are used to deliver the products when a drone-based delivery is not possible for some locations due to several reasons, such as delivery locations being outside the delivery range of drones, package weight exceeding the drones weight-carrying capacity, and weather (e.g., strong wind gust) preventing delivery by drones. They may also be used to create a more efficient delivery schedule. The optimization tool development will help take the modelling and optimization methods and prepare them as part of a tool to create effective routing and scheduling for actual deployment by industry partners.
