Note:
SAMs 1.1.1 and 1.1.4; This NSF I-Corp research project is inspired by the boots-on-the-ground experience from Dr. Robert De Lorenzo (co-inventor of the technology) during his decades long military career that spanned both US-Iraqi conflicts. He found well-trained first responders were not equipped to complete necessary interventions for casualties, resulting in preventable mortalities. As his findings provide an initial framework, an investigation of the civilian and military first responder ecosystems to fully understand the success and shortfalls in their daily work procedures is highly motivated. This research has components that each possess potential to be impactful scientific contributions: 1) understand the market forces and performance pressure on decision-makers; 2) identify purchasing criteria; 3) explore the process and procedures of first responder end users; and 4) recognize procedures across different organizations.
