Note:
SAMs 1.1.1; The research project will provide a set of innovations to address the challenge by seeding a new ecosystem that uses new technologies to (i) discover how National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) data are used from a broad cross-section of primary, secondary and even tertiary sources, (ii) validate the information with NCSES and NSF key stakeholders, and (iii) communicate the value of the approach to other federal agencies to expand uptake and adoption. The first innovation is to customize newly developed Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to the NCSES context to optimize the discovery of how NCSES data is used in scientific publications. The resulting set of dataset-publication links is deployed both to show the users and uses of NCSES data and to uncover the use in a newly developed corpus of public documents. The second innovation is to use human computer interaction approaches to engage coalitions of researchers and analysts to contribute additional information that has been missed and get feedback on how improve the utility and quality of NCSES data. The third step is to productionize an Application Programming Interface (API) and a transferable set of user interfaces that can be used by NCSES, NSF, and the federal government to demonstrate the value of data assets for investments.
