Note:
SAMs 1.1.1 and 1.1.4; Lean and Six Sigma, two integrated schools of methods for process improvement, will be used to improve the efficiency of the services provided by the Institute for Integration of Medicine and Science (IIMS) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). While Lean focuses on streamlining processes to reduce waste and eliminating process steps that do not add value, Six Sigma seeks to make processes more uniform and precise. The integration of Lean and Six Sigma builds upon the strengths of both methodologies and addresses the shortcomings of each. Lean Six Sigma techniques are effective in health care and translational research. In this project, process mapping, root cause analysis, and statistical tools will be used to deliver continuous improvement outcomes.
