Note:
SAMs 1.1.1 and 1.1.4; This research will help construct a framework to understand how applied stresses affect reaction kinetics at a surface science level by tracking electrochemical signatures and mechanical stress profiles with morphological and microstructural development. These results will improve our mechanistic understanding of mechanically-assisted corrosion kinetics and provide insight into the processes that drive microscale crack initiation on notch-free surfaces. The information gained from this project can feed structural life management tools to better track material damage for more efficient maintenance schedules and may ultimately enable predictive damage models.
