Note:
SAMs 1.3.1; The purpose of this research project is to identify whether and to what extent previously identified benefits of peer-led mentorship groups such as improved social wellbeing, increased academic performance and persistence can also be applied to a peer-based mentoring program among Division 1 student athletes. We hypothesize that by training peer mentors and promoting a connection to peer mentors using one-on-one peer counseling and small group mentored experiences we can improve the psychological readiness, academic performance, and retention of student athletes. Furthermore, we seek the opportunity to provide an evidence-based protocol that peer institutions could follow when implementing their own peer led mentorship program.
