CFDA Linked: Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research

Note:

SAMs 1.1.1 The central goal of this Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research is to assess the role of timing and sequence in childhood exposure to neighborhood deprivation in explaining health disparities in early adulthood. We focus on a number of health conditions that are highly prevalent and may confer high risk for future morbidity and mortality6-9, including occurrence of obesity and self-rated health. Aim 1: Identify the distinct temporal patterns of disadvantaged neighborhood exposure throughout childhood. Aim 2: Evaluate how patterns of neighborhood exposure (i.e., timing and sequence) are associated with health outcomes in adulthood. Aim 3: Evaluate to what extent the differential exposures to neighborhood disadvantages could account for the racial/ethnic health disparities.
