Note:
SAMs 1.1.1; Marine biofouling is a complex multistep process involving initial surface conditioning and microfouling (e.g., microbial biofilms) on submerged surfaces, followed by macrofouling (e.g., barnacles attachment), and is a major concern for maritime industries globally. This research study aims to evaluate the gap between field/environmental exposure and laboratory microcosms by comparing the composition of generated microfouling communities. The project team will be coordinating with Department of Navy Laboratories for maintaining relevance of real-world operational conditions and materials.
