Note:
SAMs 1.1.1; In this research project, UTSA will perform the Project involving Technical Testing of Sponsor materials. Sponsor, NMC, will provide UTSA with a specimen (Testing Material) for testing at UTSA. Principal Investigator (PI) will load the specimen into a hanging sample carrier and place it into the UTSA Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer. The analyzer will be purged with Argon gas to remove excess oxygen. PI will then ramp the furnace at 10C/minute to the testing temperature of 1100C. PI will then allow the system to thermally equilibrate for 15 minutes under flowing argon. Then steam will be introduced to the furnace, where the sample hangs in a platinum basket. The sample will be held in the steam atmosphere for 4 hours, then cooled to ambient temperature under flowing Argon. If the sample remains unreacted, the temperature will be elevated to 1200C for 30 minutes in steam prior to cooling under argon gas to room temperature. The exposed sample product will be returned to NMC following testing, and a CSV file which includes testing data, specifically sample mass change as a function of time and temperature, will be provided via email to NMC.
