SAMs 1.1.1; Earth's nearest celestial companion, the moon, is constantly bathed in radiation from outer space and micrometeorites, both of which pose a threat to future lunar settlers. In order to circumvent these limitations, this research project will explore lava tubes using LiDAR (3D imagining), LASERs, and multispectral imaging using a semi-autonomous rover known as Orpheus. Our rover will be able to provide detailed maps of the lava-tubes and potential building materials in the form of metal containing minerals.
