Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: Distribution of diamondback terrapins in Texas and Identification of Nesting Habitats
Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity:
Gulf Of Mexico Alliance
Program Title: none
Note:
SAMs 1.1.1 - "...In the past, research efforts have focused on the upper and lower Texas coasts, leaving much of the mid-coast unstudied. In order to properly manage this species, it is necessary to first know where it occurs. Just as importantly, the location of nesting beaches should be identified, as this species exhibits nest site fidelity, returning to the same nesting sites, year after year. With the expansion of coastal development, it is imperative to identify these sites so they can be preserved as functional habitats. The proposed project objectives are: 1. Identify undocumented diamondback terrapin populations throughout the state of Texas, and 2: Identify undocumented nesting beaches for terrapin populations in the state of Texas...."
