SAMs 1.4.3 - "Special Collections at Bell Library at TX A&M-Corpus Christi seeks $25,000 to digitize and transcribe the Corpus Christi Coffee Club VHS Collection, consisting of 739 tapes, donated by Rey Madrigal. They are recordings of his public programming TV show, “Corpus Christi Coffee Club,” a popular civic forum for the Latinx community in the 1990s. Prominent, local, and national figures discussed current events at Rosita’s Restaurant while Madrigal filmed. They document the perspectives of Hispanic citizens and their concerns for equality. A graduate student will be hired, 13 hours a week to digitize and transcribe the tapes. A Finding Aid, MP4 files, and PDF transcripts will be uploaded to 3 portals and made available online."
