IDD Services

INSTRUCTIONAL Services offered for students with IDD:


University of Houston and Vocational Rehabilitation Transition Event: 2024 Beyond Barriers Transition Employment Symposium. Connected high school students with disabilities including IDD and students on the spectrum with meaningful support services and resources. 198 students attended this years event on April 11th, 2024. University and Community resources attended, including several employers. Students could find employment opportunities, learn about college level accommodations, and connect with community supports. The Justin Dart Jr. Student Accessibility Center at the University of Houston's main campus looks to put on an event like this for students on an annual basis.

Volunteer work

The Justin Dart Jr. Student Accessibility Center has offered just helped a student with IDD complete an internship with the Director. This students was a registered student. We welcome learning opportunities like this for students. Students are also able to volunteer at any of our events.



ADDITIONAL Services  offered for students with IDD:


Best Buddies Friendship Walk: The Justin Dart Jr. Student Accessibility Center has sponsored and supported the Best Buddies Friendship Walk that supports students with IDD. We have held it on our campus in 2023 and this year May 4th 2024. Program for Supporting and Mentoring Students with Autism PSMSA was established to provide additional support to college students enrolled at UH who identify as neuro diverse. Students are matched with peer mentors who provide additional support in three primary areas: Organization, Personal Responsibility, and Social Engagement. Mentors and mentees are matched by the Program Director, then the pair develops goals/objectives for the semester together. The pair is required to meet a minimum of 3 hours a week to work towards the established goals. The details of the meetings are worked out by the pair. Once a month the entire group of mentors/mentees meets for a Social Skills group meeting led by the Program Director Byron Ross, Ph.D.
