Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: CAP: Development, evaluation, and delivery of citrus HLB management approaches by targeting its nature as a pathogen-triggered immune disease
Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity:
University of Florida / U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)
CFDA: 10.309
Program Title: none
Note:
1.1.1. This project will control HLB by mitigating reactive oxygen species (ROS) with integrated horticultural measures, genetic improvements of citrus varieties with antioxidant enzymes, generating non-transgenic HLB resistant/tolerant citrus varieties by editing key genes required for CLas-triggered ROS production, and using CTV-mediated expression of antioxidant enzymes and silencing of key genes required for CLas-triggered ROS production. This multidisciplinary approach has a great potential to increase citrus production in HLB-affected citrus orchards in TX and FL and protect citrus production in all citrus growing areas in the US.
