Note:
SAMs 1.1.1 and 1.1.4; For this research project, state-of-the-art microscopy instrumentation at Kleberg Advanced Microscopy Center (KAMC) (led by collaborator Ana Stevanovic) at the minority-serving University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) will be used to perform grain marking using Zeiss Crossbeam 340 focused ion beam (FIB). The grain marking is essential for an accurate secondary ion mass analysis (SIMS) of micron-sized grains. We will utilize electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) chemical maps performed at the University of Arizona to select 36 grains for FIB marking. The sputtering time will depend on the gold thickness, and we will test various Ga+ exposures (~ 50-250s) to aim for the depth of the milled area to be comparable with the thickness of the deposited metal layer.
